This part of the sunshine state certainly has a lot to offer, but before I get into the details of each of my 10 favorite cities there, let me pass on a few fun facts:

• It’s located in the southeastern part of Florida, in the Miami metropolitan area, close to the Caribbean and South America.

• The county has 31 municipalities (including 24 incorporated cities) and many unincorporated areas.

• Broward County is one of the three counties that make up the Miami metropolitan area.

• It’s home to a diverse, multilingual population, and as of 2021, it has a population of 1.931 million people.

As promised, here’s what you came here for – my shortlist of the best cities in Broward County.

1. Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale is THE biggest city in Broward County. It’s particularly well known for its beaches, arts, culture, and events.

During the day, you’re free to take a walk along its pristine beaches or shop to your heart’s content at the luxury shopping stores along Las Olas Boulevard.

It’s a great place for boating and fishing. Often referred to as the “Venice of America”, Fort Lauderdale offers gondola rides on the canals, airboats, and even a water taxi to see the various mansions and yachts on Millionaires Row  

It also has an amazing nightlife and party scene, with plenty of bars, restaurants, live music, dancing, and more.

Recommendations:

• Take a car with you for independent exploration
• Take plenty of money (the cost of living is expensive there)
• It’s warm all year round, so go any time
• The beaches are free to enjoy

2. Hollywood

Known best for its association with the entertainment industry, Hollywood is an amazing place for tourists, with its legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame, on Hollywood Boulevard, lined with tributes to all of your favorite entertainment stars, living or dead.

And if you’re really lucky, you may also get to spot celebrities in person if you do due diligence and find out where best to go.

Universal Studios is also a star attraction for tourists, as is the famous TCL Chinese Theaters. I can also recommend the Warner Brothers Studio Tour.

And a really fun thing to go and do is to check out the Hollywood Museum of Failure, dedicated to the most famous failures in Hollywood.

And you simply HAVE to take the all-important photo in front of the gigantic Hollywood sign.

Recommendations:

• You need to spend about 5 to 7 days there if you don’t want to be rushed and you want to see everything

3. Pompano Beach

Another of our Best Cities in Broward County is Pompano Beach. The heart of the gold coast, Pompano Beach is an excellent city for water sports enthusiasts – they have boating, fishing, jet skiing, parasailing, and an offshore living coral reef that you can see right up close by snorkeling or scuba diving. In fact, their municipal fishing pier is a staggering one thousand feet long. 

It’s also really popular for its local parks, beachside playgrounds, and outdoor grilling. And they also have wonderful art exhibitions.

Recommendations:

• Check out one of their special annual events, such as the seafood festival in April, the fishing rodeo in May, or the holiday boat parade in December

4. Coral Springs

Often confused for a suburb, Coral Springs is a city in its own right. It seems to be more popular as somewhere to move home to rather than simply a place to visit as a tourist, and it’s easy to see why.

But I’m happy to report that Coral Springs is actually a very good spot for a staycation. It’s a small, family-friendly city with a variety of fun things to do with kids.

If, like me, you love the great outdoors, I’d say it’s 100% worth checking out Tall Cypress Natural Area. you’ll be so amazed at all the wildlife there you’ll struggle to believe you’re actually in a city.

Recommendations:

• If you have kids with you, the Sportsplex is a must

5. Pembroke Pines

Pembroke Pines is a superb place to go for a round or two of golf, whether you go to the Pembroke Pines Country Club and Golf Course, or the Grand Palms Golf Club.

You can also enjoy: the shops at Pembroke Gardens, take the kids to one (or more!) of the water parks, go skating in Pines Ice Arena, find your way out of Nexus escape room, pay a visit to Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery and Exhibit Hall.

And the list goes on; they also have bowling, the theater, and spas for when you want to just relax. 

Recommendations:

• You’d be well advised to take a car to get about more easily

6. Lauderhill

Lauderhill is the cricket capital of the USA, attracting international matches and upwards of 500,000 sports tourists year-on-year.

But that’s certainly not all it has to offer – thanks to its diverse population; it’s a veritable melting pot of different cultures.

And this is reflected in the cuisine of the local restaurants. (There are plenty of Caribbean and Jamaican dining spots in particular.)

Then there’s Jungle Island, which is part zoo and part theme park, which has animals from every corner of the globe.

Recommendations:

• If you’re planning on a trip to the theater, you need to arrive 45 minutes before show time to be able to park

7. Plantation

Plantation Florida gets its name from the previous part-owner of the land, the Everglades Plantation Company, and their unsuccessful attempts to establish a rice plantation in the area.

Its natural environment is unmatched by other South Florida cities. It has several beaches worth a visit, a great golf course for golf fanatics, and several museums for broadening the mind, including the world erotica art museum.

And if all that’s not enough, you can also check out the Big Cypress National Preserve for its unique ecosystems, the Sawgrass Nature Center and Wildlife Hospital to see the animals, and the Parrot Island Scuba Adventures for underwater escapades.

8. Sunrise

Sunrise, Florida is amazing – you can expect a world-class shopping experience, four-star accommodations, and restaurants that do not disappoint.

It’s really kid-friendly, too, thanks to attractions like the indoor trampoline arena, Rebounderz, Brian Piccolo sports grounds, A Painting Fiesta art studio, and the Museum of Discovery and Science.

While for the more mature tourist, you’re sure to appreciate the Bonnet House Museum and Gardens, the Fern Forest Nature Center, the Markham Park and Target Range or the Fort Lauderdale Antique Car Museum.

Not to mention the beautiful beaches with their fantastic ocean views and fine white sand.

Recommendations:

• For a bite to eat, check out the Cheesecake Factory, the India House Restaurant, or the delightful Toa Toa Chinese Restaurant

9. Weston

This up-and-coming city is known for its lush landscapes, making it an excellent spot for nature hiking trails and cycling. Very tranquil and peaceful.

And speaking of tranquil, the Bonaventure Country Club has an excellent 18-hole golf course with a scenic lake and waterfall.

Alternatively, you can spend some time at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park, which has basketball and volleyball courts, and all the amenities you need. Not to mention miles of beautiful sandy shores and stunning ocean vistas.

You will also find distinctive neighborhoods, where you’ll find the likes of the Young at Art Museum, with its interactive exhibits and edutainment, and Fort Lauderdale’s Las Olas Boulevard’s trendy restaurants and eateries.

Recommendations:

• You can avoid crowds here because the big city vibes aren’t as full-on

10. Coconut Creek

A main attraction in Coconut Creek is Butterfly World, its tropical, flowering gardens, a staggering twenty thousand LIVE exotic butterflies and birds, and a live bug zoo.

While there, you can also hand-feed parrots, grab a bite to eat, and check out the gift shop for souvenirs.

Promenade At Coconut Creek is pretty good, too, it’s an open-air shopping experience with over 36 stores and boutiques, 14 restaurants, a state-of-the-art 11-screen luxury theater, and  Silverspot Cinema as well.

And if you fancy your chances at making some easy money, why not check out Seminole Casino?

• There may be no beach in town, but there is a nice beach about half an hour east of town
